Boat Decor to Secure Galley or Head Towels

Review of decorative ToweLoc fastener to keep galley or head hand towels securely in place on a boat - and not on a cabin floor

If you own a boat that tends to toss items around in your cabin when cruising or hitting a big wake, then you have no doubt experienced everyday items like hand towels in the galley fall to the cabin floor.

Even more likely, if you have young kids on-board that may not always hang up towels after using them in your boat gallery or head - then the ToweLoc may be your answer to keeping your hand towels securely in place on your boat. And the decorative nautical flair is a nice bonus on a boat.

I was recently asked to review the ToweLoc towel fastener and found it to be both a useful and decorative accent for a boat.

ToweLoc Both Functional and Decorative for Boats

When I first heard about ToweLoc I thought it was a nice decorative accent for a kitchen or bathroom (or in this case our galley and head on a boat), but I wondered how necessary the functional aspect of the product may be for boats.

And then the ToweLoc story had me convinced. The founder of the company designed the towel fastener because she was tired of picking up hand towels that her kids left on the floor after they washed her hands. Sounded like a very familiar story to me.

The ToweLoc works similar to an earring - the long post goes through the towel and is secured with a backing cap. The backing requires a bit of a trick to take off (press in and pull) which makes it somewhat childproof. Once in place, my daughter could not remove the towel from our boat's galley. After washing her hands the towel stayed in place.

Ultimately we decided the best place to use the ToweLoc for us was in the head. Keeping our towel neatly in place was ideal for the tight space of our boat head.

The ToweLoc we reviewed on our boat was the Set Sail design featuring a boat anchor (perfect for boats or yachts) and had the one inch pin length (which seemed ideal for a folded hand towel). The company also makes a variety of glass and metal designs and can even have them custom engraved to personalize them.

It also arrived in a nice brushed silver box making it a nicely packaged original gift for boaters that enjoy nautical decorative accents on their boat.

Thanks Diane!

I started offering ToweLocs for sale at BoatNameGear after reading this review, and they have been one of our biggest sellers for the holidays.

It may be because they go well with our personalized boat name hand towels, but I think the ToweLocs would do well on their own. Great product!

One question - any concern as a Mom about the sharp pin on the back of these things? Lots of boaters, like you, have kids onboard. I know there's a clasp to cover the pin, but I'm not yet sure how well it holds up / stays on tight over time.

Thanks!

Hey Andrew -
We actually tested the ToweLocs on our boat with our 4 year old daughter (the cutie in the picture above) and it really is pretty child proof - in fact, the clasp is a bit tricky for an adult to remove the back (have to squeeze in and pull off). So I feel pretty confident using it for kids. In fact, we'll probably leave it on the boat in the kids head (yes we are lucky enough to have 2!) so that the towel actually stays on the towel bar. As for longevity - I only started using it the last month of our season, so we'll see how it holds up over next boating season.
